Lane-splitting refers to a driving maneuver where a motorcyclist may travel on the road in between two lanes of moving traffic. In this case, the motorcyclist, an adult male, was lane-splitting between lanes on the left side of the highway. A tow truck driver struck him as he was executing the maneuver, causing the bike to fall.
The California collision had tragic results
The crash occurred in the westbound lanes of Interstate 80. The motorcyclist who was knocked over while lane-splitting was killed. Crash analysts are still investigating, particularly to determine whether drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
